Network Operation Center(NOC) is considered to be the nervous system of every IT organization. NOC is a centralized center that is used for monitoring and managing an IT organizations internal service, database, external services, firewalls, and network. The implementation of NOC enabled IT operators to continuously monitor information and entire IT systems. This helped the NOC team proactively monitor the whole IT system and identify if there were any issues in the system. Also, incident response is a key activity carried out by the NOC team. This enabled them in identifying issues that occur in the network and IT system and filing tickets against the issues. NOC operators were capable of resolving issues by not escalating them. Also, with NOC in place, patch management, backup, and storage became an easy job. These are some of the benefits the network operation center (NOC) holds for IT organizations. However, there were certain major drawbacks the system possessed too.
Challenges Faced with NOC team:
The benefits the NOC team possessed did not hold much light on the IT organization. Some of the major drawback faced by the team where:
These were some of the basic issues/challenges faced by the NOC team. Apart from that when the wave of digital transformation hit IT organizations, there were a new set of challenges that needed to be resolved. The digital transformation increased the infrastructure complexity and there was an adoption in next-gen technologies. This leads the NOC team with a myriad of challenges and changes in their daily operations. This called in the need for an advanced solution that was capable enough to resolve all the above issues. The solution here is the implementation of AIOps in NOC.
IT organization day to day activities rely on the network. And AIOps is the perfect solution here for advanced monitoring and observing these IT systems. Artificial Intelligence for IT operations(AIOps) enabled the complete automation of NOC activities. The implementation of AIOps improved the IT system operations. The deployed AI-based models were capable enough to take care of the underlying configuration and their management. This enabled the NOC operators to not worry much about the setup and configuration part. Also, the implementation of AI-enabled automated monitoring of the entire IT systems. This helped the operators to observe in a single pane of glass view and intelligently capture any unknown issues from the system. Eventually, with AIOps implemented in NOC management helped in the improvement of IT operations which lower the cost of operations and time efficiency. This also improved the inter-team collaboration, as it became easy for the NOC team to proactively identify issues and debug them. Let's look into some benefits of the implementation of AIOps for the NOC team.
The NOC team faced a great challenge in managing the ticketing system. That is, IT users on finding issues will just file IT tickets which are either incident tickets or service request tickets. Most tickets will get piled up and escalated as the IT team is not able to resolve them. However, with the implementation of AIOps and virtual SRE's, the IT ticket management process became automated and simple. IT tickets were getting automatically prioritized and routed to the IT operators, thus ensuring that no escalation and SLA breach of any tickets occur. On the issuing of the IT tickets, the AI-based models will automatically identify whether it is an incident ticket or service request. Based on this it will automatically initiate a workflow to perform auto-remediation or auto-fulfillment of the IT tickets. In this way, the auto-resolution of IT tickets is ensured with virtual SRE, where manual intervention can be minimized.
All of the above benefits clearly show how important AIOps can be for an IT organization. And as in the case of NOC, AIOps will enable in building a new paradigm with advanced automation. A research study shows that Ninety-two percent of IT organizations are interested in using AIOps or advanced analytics features embedded in or native to their NOC.
